About Us
We are dedicated to building a healthy community by working collaboratively and respectfully with every child, youth and family.
In the beginning...
Our Community Cares (OCC) began in 1992, when two single mothers living in a subsidized housing complex in Burlington decided they wanted to create a healthier neighbourhood for their families and a better life for their children.
In 1995, Halton Community Housing Corporation agreed to turn one of their 54 townhouse units on Burloak Drive into a community centre and the first OCC Community Centre was born.
Each community is different and because of this, each OCC is different, too. At the OCC Community Centre, children from birth to 17 years old and their families living in Halton can meet with other community members, participate in programs and take advantage of a wide variety of services right in their own neighbourhood.
Services
Our Community Cares offers a variety programs for families in Burlington. We run both structured and unstructured programs to encourage learning, physical activity and fun. Our goal is to provide opportunities for character building, social and life skill development and recreational opportunities to improve the overall quality of life for our participants.
